Worked for me, after many hours of dealing with microsoft support engineers who didn’t know the solution to this very common challenge. Thanks to all posters! Great Video that explains things simply. So yes. This is kind of a nightmare. You can create a shortcut and add the arguments at the end of the string to create an automated step for easy user self-install. If you need to run the x64 version make sure you set the shortcut to run as admin in the advanced button.

Otherwise it will launch the x86 version of the cmd prompt and give you a confusing error about running a 32bit program when 64bit is installed. But this guide is accurate and thanks to the regular people filled in the holes the experts forget, for the rest of us. Very grateful. Cheers all. Kind Of? Understatement of the year ; I always have a hard time with stuff like this and I’m pretty good with computers. It seems they always leave something off because it’s natural to them.

They think the instructions are clear but only because they’ve done this at least 5 times or they designed the whole thing. I have never been able to get one to work He gives you step by step everything. Maybe that video that adrianhigueros posted will help. I picture is worth words but a video leaves nothing to doubt. Well, I did it and I got the Project installed from the web. It is seemingly C2R, it opens etc. Yet it is not activated. I have Office license working fine, but this does not include Project When I try to use the key for volume license, it is not accepted.

I suppose that after some time I will get red bar and limited functionality, which I am not happy about. Now it is Office click to run. I have no idea either. This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting.

Worst case you may need to go to a VM, virutal machine. This would separate the 2 installations, but still allow you to use them on the same machine.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. The result is what I expected, an error dialog window that states: ” Windows Installer and Click-to-Run editions of Office programs don’t get along for this version, so you can only have one type installed at a time There is one more thing you can try, the Office Deployment Tool.

I think you may be able to create a combined installation from the 2 separate installers. I think I remember reading something about doing that.

This tool is intended for Business Office Administrators. Apparently it may also be used for consumer Office bundles. I have not tried it myself, rohn Reboot 1. This will place setup. Using group policy, there are over settings you can control via the deployment tool. I managed to use the Office Deployment Tool to create a custom install. Not sure if its just beginners luck, but I successfully managed to make a config that has Office , and Project Both CTR Office installs. But things are looking okay here. Yes, I expect they key will be accepted. You will have to provide both keys to the appropriate applications. I believe I need to use “ProjectStdRetail” in my configuration.

What matters here is that I managed to get both these applications installed, which I couldn’t have before. Let me know if you found a solution for the volume license. I am currently waiting back for a response from them. Would love to know if anyone has found a way to make this work. Talked to Microsoft support and they sent me a link to install Project retail version but my Volume License key does not work. Spent 3 hours on the phone with Microsoft support yesterday being passed around to about 12 different people.

He told me my other options would be to purchase a retail license of Project or I could send my laptop back to Dell and repurchase with a different version of Office. I told him that was all unacceptable!! I should be able to use both my legally purchased, valid software together!! I work for a company with over Microsoft loaded PCs, they are insane if they think we are going to jump thru all these hoops!!!

They need to fix the problem!!!!!!!!!
