On joining the office of the Advocate General for Punjab, he retired from Ramdays and it was while holding office of the Advocate General that he was elevated as a Judge of the Lahore High Court. Having held that office for over thirteen years he was further elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan which office he held for eight years. Guru Nanak Dev University of India honoured him with the degree of Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) for the services rendered by him in teaching law and in administration of justice. After his retirement from the Bench, the President of Pakistan decorated him with Hilal-e-Imtiaz for the same reasons which is the 2nd highest Civil Award of the country. He rejoined Ramdays as its Senior Partner after his retirement from the Supreme Court in the year 2011. He has been and still is a member of the Visiting Faculty of various prestigious educational and training institutions such as the National Defence University, the National School of Public Policy, The Civil Services Academy and the Law School at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). He presides over various Boards of “Not for Profit” organizations besides providing services to the clients in non-contentious matters such as consultations, conciliations and arbitrations.
